Designs by Doe has been our name since my mother, nicknamed "Doe" by her father, formed our current florist business in May 2003. We chose "designs" over something like "flowers by Doe" because we wanted to do more specialty and custom work, which over the years has translated into a business more focused on the individual customers and their particular gift giving wants and needs, versus a product line. We have specialized in creating unique gift ideas that cannot be purchased anywhere else and incorporating the customer's ideas into the gift so that they have input in what is created for their occasion, no matter how large or small.
I have always been a florist for my entire career, starting with delivering flowers for Lane Avenue Flowers when i was 18 years old. I have been a business partner with various other
florist operations until starting my own company with my mother. We were friends with Sandy Moneypenny, the property owner, at that time and she had the perfect location to open up at; where we are located now at 1110 Michigan. She was the first one to tell us how great Harrison West is, and at that time, how it was growing and improving by leaps and bounds.
We deliver all of Franklin and the surrounding counties with our own drivers and by using a courier service. We ship most of our products around the country with FedEx; mostly our popular item, the rainbow roses. Our clients are mostly obtained by business to business networking and tend to stay with us for all their gift giving needs over time. On the consumer side, most of our business comes from our website, www.designsbydoe.com, and various Internet marketing techniques such as Google places and Merchant Circle; where we have received a plethora of high praise in reviews.
While most people recognize the small local florist, we further describe ourselves with this on our Merchant Circle listing:
Designs by Doe Floral Studio specializes in the unique, different, and modern work. Every order is a custom order. We are serious about the details. From handmade cards to Godiva chocolate included, you will make the right decision choosing us to help you send your sentiments. We are always something different; each order is custom made and an original design in flowers.
If you have an idea, I will run with it. If you don't have an idea, I will give you one. I specialize in creating unique conceptual ideas and themes to make the occasion memorable.
"It's not just flowers, it's a Design by Doe."

We have been glad to be a part of Harrison West and see it move upwards. We like being part of a small community and find a lot of spirit here. People here understand the importance of supporting small local businesses, especially in this economy. We are proud to be a part of this small community within Columbus, and take pride like every other business and resident here. There are many proud pockets of Columbus, and I'm glad to be somewhere where we pick up trash when we see it on the sidewalks and have strong block watch tendencies. The difference in our community is: when I leave my front door open by mistake, someone will call me instead of coming in and stealing. People seem to care in this neighborhood. it's a neighborhood community, not just an address to come home to. Many many times over the years, I have opened at any time of the day to help a customer with any "floral emergency" (usually going on a date, or an emergency order for a funeral). Ive watched the neighborhood grow and everyone improve their businesses and homes. I always support the most local business and small businesses whenever possible. i am very against the corporat-ization of America and against supporting the mega monolith monsters such as Walmart. keep your dollars in your own community and/or with small family businesses and save the backbone of the economy. A very useful website about saving our local economies:

I look forward to many more years to come being a part of Harrison West, and its surrounding communities such as short north, Victorian village, Italian village, grandview and OSU. I never really strive to be a large company nor wanted a lot of stores. I'm happy being the small business owner in a good neighborhood. This isn't to say that some of my best customers aren't other places in the city, and I treat everyone equally, and consider every one's order as if it were from a family member. When it comes to my physical store, I'm very comfortable with Harrison west and I see it as a popular destination point for visitors and attracting new residents and businesses to settle down. I see our upcoming problems being logistical, such a s parking. I have trouble attracting new customers for this reason. We need a "community parking lot" like those found on high for short north. But our little business area along third here in Harrison west has tremendous potential to grow, especially with the strong businesses we have already here. While my business is especially dependent on Internet sales and Internet marketing and our website, I still enjoy my brick and mortar store and see it as integral to my business operation.
